I have many regrets in my life.

I have many regrets in my life. But perhaps the biggest regret is around my father. He and I never had much of a relationship, but towards the end of his life, after locating him and getting him off the streets, I simply didn’t want much to do with him. After all, why should I? Thankful for all we’ve learned.

My grandfather Joe never really liked me. I won’t go into the thorny details of our relationship, but the simple truth remains. Without question, my grandfather Joe was very hard on me. And he most certainly never understood me or made any effort to thaw our relationship. And yet that relationship, like so many, I remain thankful for. Why? Because I learned so much from my grandfather – even if they were painful life lessons. Value

As we entered the restaurant, morning sun streaming through the windows, and were led to our table, we chatted. Sam and I talked about our families, his life, and his recent retirement after 27 years of building his company to the powerhouse it now was. We sat, opened our menus, and chatted about what his plans were for the next stage of his life. As we took sips of our coffee, we talked about the Dodgers, contemplating if they’d be able to win another World Series with the roster as presently constructed. (We’re not optimistic!)
