You MUST eat the frog.
Do what you do not want to do when you don’t want to do it.
It’s a funny and even peculiar saying but actually comes from the great American writer and humorist, Mark Twain.
Twain said, “If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.”
I have re-learned this lesson recently.
Delaying decisions that must be made because you simply do not want to deal with it is not a solution. This will often just make a seemingly non-issue into an issue.
And for what? Just because I didn’t want to eat the frog, so to speak – because I didn’t want to deal with the issue, simply making nothing into something.
I have found that I am at my best when I deal with everything as it appears. Of course, in order of importance, but not delaying the tough decisions or unenviable work.
Moving on from one thing to the next so that my head space is clear to focus on the positive.
The good stuff—the stuff that brings me up and that brings others up. Doing so clarifies my position and allows me to hear the positions of others with a focused mind.
All of these things are about being the best. Doing your best. Being the best.
Clear the deck. Eat the frog.
The rest will work itself out.
