Over the last several months, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to leadership and what makes a great leader.
What I’ve come away with over this period is that the number one key to successful leadership is communication.
Those that communicate effectively and well, with clear ideas, goals, and expectations, led by example.
It’s the singular definition of leading from the front.
Provide guidance, deliver excellence, and engage the skills required to meet all the expectations that one has.
In my organization, I most certainly try to lead by example.
Whether it be keeping a clean and clear desk (and keeping a clean and clear desktop!) or just managing my inbox. I try to always provide clarity, focus, and to outline my expectations.
The goal is simple: deliver a leadership style that helps to produce results. Then, have everyone work in lockstep to deliver excellence in every corner of our business.
I wholeheartedly believe that these types of examples are critical both in your business life and in your personal life.
1. Lead from the top
2. Give clear guidance and expectations
3. Hold people accountable to those goals and standards
4. Always be available to provide guidance if something is not clear on what is required
Look, it’s never perfect – but that doesn’t mean we can’t always keep working towards perfection.
