Table steaks.
I heard that term recently, and it means “What everybody already has or is doing.”
The low-hanging fruit.
Busy work is not work.
Never having that difficult conversation.
A calorie is a calorie is a calorie.
Cardio burns the same amounts of calories as lifting weights BUT it depends on the time of day, workout, and body type… or you can just sweat.
This is all the easy stuff.
I have heard the statement “Get the low hanging fruit,” so often in business. “Go after that,” some would say.
I would submit that the easy stuff, the “low hanging fruit,” is what you don’t want, the rotten stuff. The work is not worth going after. It’s the fruit that has been picked on by the bugs and birds, your competition.
It’s not well-earned, and it doesn’t hold the highest value.
So, how about the fruit at the TOP of the tree? The stuff that takes the ladder, the hard climb? The stuff that takes effort and innovation, setting a goal and putting in the time.
Not the easy way. Not the easy stuff. Never the low-hanging fruit.
Low-hanging fruit is low for a reason. The easy work is easy for a reason. Did you just Google it? Or did you really research it?
Anytime something comes too easy, there is usually a reason why.
For instance, in the gym, I hate stretching. Every time I don’t, I hurt my back or a foot, and then I can’t train for some period of time.
If I just did the extra work, I would be so much further ahead, injured less and with better results.
The same is true with the work we do.
How prepared are we for that meeting?
Did we get enough sleep the night before?
Did we put in that extra work, that extra care and dedication for the client?
Following the path of the best and brightest, one can’t help but see the same footsteps.
Buffett. Schwarzenegger. Carson. Murphy. Phelps. Jeter.
In the iconic baseball movie The Natural, Roy’s father says, “You got a gift, Roy. But it’s not enough.”
Talent very seldom is.
Mix talent and a desire to be the best.
To learn AND listen.
Then, you become unstoppable.
