“We are so thankful that we met you, Jeremy,” Susan said.
She then posted the same thing publicly online!
I’m so appreciative for the relationship and the work we have done for her and their family.
Later in the week, after seeing the post, my client Susan and I spoke live. I just wanted to inquire about her husband, Charles’, health (he’s battling cancer) and all that the family had going on.
No performance discussions, just simply a check-in
“How is Chet feeling?” I asked.
“He is doing ok,” Susan replied. “We have had a few small scares, but we are hoping for a clean scan next week. God willing.”
“Please keep me posted and let us know if we can do anything for you,” I said.
She then said something that, in 30-plus years, I have never heard.
“I was speaking with my sister this week about how thankful we are that God brought you into our lives, and how meeting you on that airplane was God’s way of winking at my family and me. Thank you for all that you have done and do,” she said.
This struck me.
This family is deeply religious – a different religion from my family and me. I am Jewish, and they are very religious Christians.
Yet, both are deeply respectful and appreciative of each other.
Who would have thought that a conversation on an airplane would lead to a client and to this experience?
It’s one of life’s little mysteries.
At the end of our call together, we agreed to keep chatting and that she would keep me up to speed on all the family happenings.
I agreed to continue to be there and to continue to listen when Susan needed someone to talk to.
Different people. Different beliefs.
Same human beings.
