I started writing these weekly messages on March 16, 2018.
That makes 302 Friday Thoughts in the books. And with today’s message and the first one of 2024, that makes 303.
What I have learned over these last five+ years is that all things will pass.
Difficult times – and times of great success – pass us by, always changing.
I’ve also come to the conclusion that focusing on the past is never a good idea.
However, knowing where you come from and what it took to get you to where you are today are critical components for continued success.
So, whether you started the year feeling a little off physically or mentally, financially, or professionally, take this time to refocus on the “why.”
Adjust your sails. Make the changes to get back on course, headed in the direction you want to be.
The start of the year is not a magical time where suddenly everything is fine and nothing we did in the past matters. However, for many of us, it does represent a fresh start. It’s an opportunity to say, “Well that year is over and done. Time for me to do what I need to get the results that I want.”
That’s why gyms are so busy for the first month of the year, and most gym memberships are sold in January!
But how about we agree to change that dynamic a little bit? Let’s start the year with a focus on the attitudes and habits that will lead to the success that you want.
Change the little things – the stuff around the edges to really get where you want to go.
Don’t say that you’re going to go to the gym six days a week for an hour each time. How about starting by setting a plan to get into the shape that you want to be in? ‘Work backwards into what that will take, reverse engineer.
Set yourself up for success, not failure. Move a little more and eat a little less. Don’t starve yourself – that never works! Focus on 10% improvement that is sustainable. Then, move up to the next 10%.
Life is all about living on the edges. That’s what gets you to the center and beyond, what affords you the focus to do something unique that may have been unthinkable at some point.
Be the best version of yourself, that version that brings you joy, meaning, and fulfillment every day.
So, here’s to you and having the best year – and the best life – by your own design.
Happy New Year and more importantly, Happy Life!
