Consider this…
Is the correct order: goal, then consistency, then clarity?
Or…
Is it clarity of goal that brings consistency of behavior?
I would argue the latter; clarity of goal produces consistent behavior.
Once one has a clear vision of the goal and the road ahead, clearly defining the why behind the goal, then the consistency around the behavior follows.
When you’re in the gym, what is the focus?
Is it “I just want to maintain?”
Or “I need to lose some weight and get stronger and leaner?”
Or “I am focused on looking and feeling “X,” therefore I will follow this training plan to achieve this goal.”
I will then follow this maintenance plan to stay the course with the goal I have set forth.
Too many people (me included) wander aimlessly through life. Sure, we have a few very ambiguous goals in the back of our minds:
Make some more money. Be in better shape. Drink less.
But what does any of that mean?!
A goal without a specific plan, without benchmarks and criteria along the way, is meaningless.
In business, we see this all the time. In my industry, we really see this all the time.
“I’ll do this and that, and I’ll end up here or there.”
Don’t get me wrong; for some, this is fine.
But for me, it’s not.
However, I admit that I, too, have had times where the clarity of goals and the specificity of action have not been there.
Over the next several weeks, here is the challenge I have for anyone reading this (and for myself):
Over the last several months, I have been tinkering with several ideas, both personal and professional.
Time to bring this all together.
Is anyone up for the challenge? If so, feel free to message me privately and we will go out and create this together.
Remember, clarity produces consistency!
