“Your abilities might give you potential, but your choices demonstrate your character, courage, or kindness.”
That quote exhibits the concept of action over ability.
This is something that I try to teach my kids, team members, and those I mentor.
You can have all the natural gifts in the world. BUT if you don’t put in the work, those gifts will go to waste.
I never had any “real” talent. At least I never felt that I did.
I struggled in school. ‘Always had to prove myself in sport. ‘Never the first kid picked or the last. I was just kind of…there.
When I began my career, they said, “You’re too young. What can a kid like you know that I don’t?”
Then, to prove them all correct, I went out and failed all the exams. Multiple times.
Once again, I proved that I was just no good.
And then, it happened: it all clicked.
I never gave up, despite all the roadblocks. (Most of which were self-imposed!)
I passed all those exams. Broke through the youth question with courage. Tireless effort. Energy and focus.
I ended up proving all the doubters wrong. ‘Showed them all I could do it and that I did belong.
Thirty-one years later, here I am.
All of us have the choice.
Choose success.
