A long-time friend and mentor said something to me the other day that really resonated. In life and in business, you must have two sets of goals:
Move Away Goals and Move Toward Goals.
In thinking about what these two goals meant, I really spent some time digging in to understand what they meant to me. Here are a few of my thoughts:
Move Away Goals are what keep you moving away from your comfort zone. The problem is, if you get too far out, then you can burn out. Why? Because you’re not always going to achieve that goal in the timeline that you want or expect to achieve it.
Move Toward Goals helps you focus on what’s in front of you at the moment, being present in both your business and in your personal life to ensure that you’re moving toward a focus and an end game that allows you to feel success.
Both are needed to create balance and focus. Without balance in life, in business, in fitness, you have nothing. The most successful people I know are balanced.
However, the ones that maybe you perceive as incredibly happy and successful because they have tremendous success in business or wealth are usually the ones that are most unfulfilled. They moved away instead of moved toward.
The goal for all of us should be fulfillment in all aspects of our lives: personal, professional, financial, and more.
Move away from where you began but always move towards where you’re trying to go.
Then you achieve life’s true gift: balance, calmness, and success.
